We baptise as the Bible Commands: "In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit". For many of us we were baptised as infants. Through our Baptism God gives us a new life and makes us his own child. Through water joined with the Word of God we become part of God's family forever. We believe that the Holy Spirit is at work in Baptism. The Holy Spirit bring us the blessings and victory that Jesus won for us in his death on the cross. We receive forgiveness of sins, freedom from death and the devil and we are gifted with life with our gracious God forever.

Lutherans (along with Catholic, Orthodox, Anglican, Uniting Church and many other Christians) baptise babies as well as children and adults. Jesus said in Matthew 19:14 "Let the children come to me. Don't stop them! For the Kingdom of Heaven belongs to those who are like these children." We follow this practice since the Triune God promises to come to people through baptism with His love, forgiveness and acceptance, no matter what their age. God pours faith in the the life of the one being baptised and continues this daily by His Holy Spirit.
